this is all, as they say, uncharted territory. this is one grand experiment by mlb, game platforms and us dumbass fantasy players. just do this as simply as possible and we all will have 1 year experience to develop better ways to handle this next year, next players. \top of this page by minny. let kc and chi decide 'cause itll be one of them who drafts otani. not bad minny, not bad at all.

I suggest creating an imaginary 4th waiver slot for the team that owns Ohtani. They can state a starter to park in that fourth waiver slot for the year to make room for ohtani. That team, chi or kc or whoever streams the pitcher year round. Every fifth day they add ohtani for the start and drop him when he is done. Easy peasy for the rest of us. I dont get busted for accidentally having a 26 man roster. If he becomes a closer, then that is on the team that owns him on how they wanna stream him. It is not my responsibility on how that team strategizes having a closer ohtani and hitter ohtani.
see even here and now detroit was under the wrong idea that the league goes to 26man roster. there will be people thruout the year hurrying and not paying attention to their roster size and adding a player by accident and then being severly punished. just look at the yahoo sheet and see 'you have 1 roster spot available'. every time you see that you have to remind yourself YOU DONT HAVE THAT SPOT AVAILABLE. 13 other teams have to be careful instead of only 1 team having to switch otani. if we go to 26 and there are more than 2 offenses then starting with the 3rd roster offense pitts gets fined too for this confusing rule. sorry pitts, this time ur way wrong.
There is a simple solution to this....
everyone picks up a garbage minor league player (Yahoo has an endless supply of them at the bottom of the FA list) to occupy the 26th spot.
pitts does have final say and i will comply with his decision. its kc's problem now as im drafting tatis. its also kc's problem with nyy as ny will now be hounding him for otani. good luck with that!
ok so we acquire a 26th man. how much? for 1 year only? do we have a 1 round draft for the player using 325K? use silent bidding which then is unfair imho? there's more here than just add a player.

Please, just award the Otani Cashman team with an imaginary 4th waiver slot and we be done with this. That team identifies a player to reside in that 4th waiver slot all year, and they own managing how they utilize Ohtani. Boom, done. Unless I'm missing something here.

Even simpler, just have Ohtani as the 4th WW. That way that team can stream Ohtani back n forth as they see fit. Start Ohtani the SP on days he starts n stream over to Ohtani the Hitter on days he doesn't. The only real difference would b any hits on days he starts, which we never have counted 4 other SP's.

I thought about that one Yanks. Problem is, when a team wants to add Ohtani from the imaginary WW4, they would have to drop somebody, meaning that guy assumedly would need to reside in one of the formal Waiver Wire slots. So instead oh Ohtani in the WW4, it would prolly need to be somebody else, Im thinking a starting pitcher not going that day. Or treat the WW4 slot as anybody can reside in it temporarily depending on how the Cashman team wants to manage it that day.

Yanks idea is both elegant, simple, and brilliant. Owner just swaps the two on any given day, just doesnt enjoy hitting and pitching stats on the same day....BUT, the rest of us who own NL hitting pitchers dont enjoy that same right. Everybody wins.
And if Ohtani becomes a closer, then go with a 4th waiver wire for the ohtani owner team only.

Ok. I think some folks don't understand what I am proposing and why. That is my fault. Let me get try again.
Yahoo is treating Ohtani as 2 separate players. This is stupid. My belief is that the Cashman team who owns Ohtani should get to use him both as a pitcher and as a hitter whenever they want, even on the same day.
To facilitate this, I propose to allow the Cashman team that owns Ohtani to have 1 extra Yahoo roster spot to be used for Ohtani. The problem then is that Yahoo does not allow me to add a roster spot to a single team. Instead the entire league will be increased to 26 IN YAHOO ONLY. Your official Cashman roster will remain limited to 25. This is only being done to accommodate the Ohtani owner since Yahoo counts Ohtani as 2 roster spots. So really, all teams (even the Ohtani owner) are still at 25 players...the Ohtani owner just needs 26 spots for his 25 players.
Here's the complaint: If you give every team 26 man rosters in Yahoo, somebody is accidentally going to add a 26th man when they shouldn't and violate the rules.
Solution: To avoid the non-Ohtani teams from accidentally filling that 26th spot with a real player, I will add one of the MANY inactive players Yahoo has in their database to every non-Ohtani team. Every year, Yahoo has a bunch of recently retired, long term injured, non-active, or low minors non-prospect guys in their database that have ZERO chance of accruing MLB statistics. Each team will be assigned one of these players to deaden their 26th roster spot and prevent the accidental use of it for an active player. THE TEAM DOES NOT OWN THIS 26th PLAYER IN ANY REAL WAY WHATSOEVER. The player does not occupy a Cashman roster spot, does not accrue salary, and does not even show up on the spreadsheets. The player is just being used as a dead roster spot to enforce the 25 man roster limit. With the inactive player, it will be impossible for an owner to accidentally violate the 25 man roster limit. This could not be simpler.
Other solutions: Any other solution I've heard turns Ohtani into a either a liability, a huge pain in the ass to own, or makes his pitching capabilities completely worthless. This is not fun. Everyone is complaining that the 26 man solution is too complicated and then goes on to propose a more complicated solution that forces the Ohtani user to perform constant roster manipulations to utilize Ohtani. The 26th man solution requires nothing extra from anyone. It does not even require a change to our rules. The game experience wouldn't change for anyone, even the Ohtani owner.
Ok. So hopefully that explains my position. I love the discussion, but I really haven't heard a better idea yet. I want to maximize the fun and minimize the complexity. I haven't heard a solution yet that is either more fun or less complicated. I am ready to hear it though if you have it. It is quite possible I don't understand some of the proposals, so feel free to reiterate them. However, if the solution requires Ohtani owners to constantly add/remove him from the roster, then it's not as fun. If it requires changes to the spreadsheet or Cashman rules, then it is probably not simpler.
