Just b/c Yahoo doesnt know how to handle the website end of Otani's player positions doesnt mean we should be obtuse as well.
I say whoever drafts Otani owns both guys, and that team has the option to stream the hitter and pitcher for the entire Yahoo season. He is one guy. Period. The streaming we dont like are the ones that involves more than one player. I think this is simple and shouldnt be complicated.
AGREE WITH THIS METHOD. The league can figure out how to make this work.

Question.... if you draft a prospect as a hitter, for example Christian Bethancourt or Jose Ruiz, who then is converted to a pitcher in the minor leagues, do you keep the player only as a hitter since you drafted him as a hitter? Does the pitcher version of the player go back into the draft?
The answer to those questions is an obvious 'no'.
When you draft a minor leaguer, you aren't drafting only his hitting or only his pitching stats. You get the entirety of the player himself, whether he ends up being a hitter or a pitcher. By logical extension, in a case like Ohtani, you should then get both simultaneously. It's never one or the other. So that makes it clear to me that we should not treat Ohtani like 2 different roster spots. So if you own Ohtani, you get him as a hitter and a pitcher.
Now there is the issue as to how to handle him on a day to day basis. It's a Yahoo imposed limitation that you have to use 2 Yahoo roster spots if you want to use Ohtani as both a hitter and a pitcher. This penalizes Ohtani owners by forcing them to either carry 1 less player on their roster or else make daily roster transactions to shuttle him on and off the roster on days he pitches (what if he ends up being a closer?). I don't like either Yahoo-imposed compromise. Instead we should increase our rosters in Yahoo to 26. This would allow whoever has Ohtani to keep him on the roster as the '26th player'. Only the Ohtani owner would be allowed to use that 26th spot. There will be a severe penalty for anyone else using the spot.
So those are my thoughts on the matter.
TLDR: 1. You draft him, you own hitting and pitching stats. 2. You get to use an extra 26th roster spot for Ohtani only so you don't have to stream.

2 problems with the streaming solution:
1. What a pain in the arse it is to have to stream him. I wouldn't want him if I have to stream all his starts. 2. Streaming assumes he is always a SP. I think it is pretty likely he ends up being a reliever at some point. If he does end up being a RP, then you can't stream him at all.

Ur gonna make it harder on 13 teams (with possibly severe penalties) 2 accommodate 1 team? With injuries and roster shuffling, plus having multiple fantasy teams, an accidental 26th player will likely occur. Since there r NO transaction limits in this league, I'd prefer we kept all rosters fixed at 25 n have Ohtani team make the necessary switches. Really should be like 1 per week to accommodate for his 1 start.

Sorry I type slow n see Unc Chi was actually thinking along the same line as me. Y not leave it at 25 for this year n see how it works? Even if he eventually becomes a RP, he won't be hitting. I dunno, no real clear cut answers. Just hate to have 13 teams have to count players each time they make a transaction or even for Godfathers to have to police Yahoo rosters daily.

Is it really that hard to not go beyond 25 active players? It's a lot easier than staying under the $90m salary cap. I would think you would have to intentionally break the rule to end up with 26. You should be visiting your Yahoo lineup daily. It tells you right on the page how many empty roster spots you have.
can i add that if we do the streaming that he can only be added/subtracted for himself only. on days he doesnt pitch or dh you cant drop the pitcher and add a different player from waivers/minors to fill the roster spot.
i hope this makes it easier for our very own royals. lol

And that is easier to keep track of then the 25 man rule?
All these other solutions seem like adding another mechanism to the cashman rube goldberg machine.
