Before we vote, would it be better to address this by changing rules regarding trading money or is it better to address it via changes to free agency?
You'll still have guys trading Kershaw and eating all the money even if you do force multi-year contracts. It will just be a little harder or you'll have to wait until the last year of the deal.

How bout restricting any cash given to a max of 25% of any player contract? That way KC would've only been able to offer only up to $7.5M for LA, n that way LA would've been over Cap n therefore deal wouldn't have been allowed. Like anything else, control the cash, control the world!

I'm against that cuz then if I want to trade an elite player I may only have 1 or none teams that could even trade for that player. If it hurts trading I don't like it.

Minny, just like you want to be able to make trades without restrictions, there are owners who want to sign one year free agent contracts without restrictions. If we vote to change the rules on contract years and I am forced to sign contracts that I would not necessarily want, you should be willing to give in and agree to trade restrictions.
Despite all the restrictions that we want to put in, Kershaw and other elite players go to the teams who have saved the most money. Whether a 1 year contract or a five year contract. That will not change even with the new rule. If we want to stop people from signing one year deals just to trade them for prospects, one simple plan would be to make the salary cap firm. If this rule were in place the past few seasons, Kershaw would not have been traded because no one would have had cap room to trade for him, without cutting players. Keeping a firm cap would require everyone to manage their cap room closer than we do now because of the ability to trade cash and go over the cap in future years.

I like to trade anytime, all the time. That's is the most fun part for me. I signed Kershaw to massive 1 yr deal last yr and won it all. I actually strategy wise prefer not to give big long term deals, but I am thinking it would be better for the league. I'll be perfectly fine if we don't do anything, I've won 2 of the last 3 years and am the all time leading scorer!

I feel allowing up to 25% Cash instead of a hard cap, at least allows trade flexibility. That means u can't trade Kershaw for a prospect or even a minimum type contract player like X Bogaerts, but could for Kenley Jansen. With a hard Cap, then Kershaw is basically untradeable.
Guys my proposal is truly the compromise proposal n u will know it cause those who wanted no restrictions, hard caps, or no 1 yr contracts, won't be 100% happy but should at least accept this small change. It's like making trades here, if it didn't hurt u even a little, then the trade was completely lopsided in ur favor...a little pain for all sides, usually means it's a good trade (or proposal)! Now wise up n listen to NYY n go about w ur Cashman's Lives!!!

Congrats guys. We are America! Half of us don't care enough to vote and the other half are divided sharply. Season starting this weekend so good luck everyone. I'm sure this closes the issue and we won't need to discuss further after next offseason...😈
Oh, btw, anyone who said I had a chance to trade for Kershaw is wrong. I did not see the post until after he was traded, so I never got to offer. My fault for not logging in everyday?

Definitely your fault for not logging in 75 times a day. Even if you got it who is going to headline a deal for Kershaw? Polanco? I'd rather have bogaerts.
PS remember a few yrs ago when I had an expiring contract Kershaw and I couldn't get a major league centerpiece, had to settle for a top 15ish? Corey seager. It's not as easy selling as it seems always. Although sometimes the guy you miss out on is a blessing...Cough-kolten wong-cough
You can have Bogaerts or Polanco, the point is neither are going to help you enough to make a contending team.
Of course, expiring contracts at the end of the season are true rentals. Close to the end of the season, teams are starting to look towards next year and would rather have there prospects. At the beginning of the season, everyone is trying to win so who cares, give it up for a great player if I fall out of it recoup and trade for prospects. Nothing lost.

I traded $20 mil for Willy Adames during free agency. Outrageous! Swapped Adames for max Kepler who I plan on being my dh hopefully this yr and more next yr. Last yr I had trea Turner in minors during a title run, swapped him for Addison Russell and then Franky lindor. You never know how things will turn out.
how about just indicating that kershaw, trout, and harper must be signed to 2-5 yr contract. bid as much as you want for as many years as you can afford.
