First off I should object to having to explain at all, but I will. 1. It became apparent to me that I have Joc Pederson ranked alot lower than most. 2. I discussed Joc with multiple teams originally seeking help this year to try to win now, but the process was frustrating. 3. Proposing trades and having them rejected was getting old. Pitt and I prob proposed 10 deals back and forth working toward a deal 4. Without revealing too much I consider Mondesi a top 30 or so prospect similar to Andrus, but his dad also had power so there is potential there IMO. 5. It isn't ridiculous to think 15 top prospects could graduate to MLB and next year Mondesi is top 10-15 material. Its a gamble, but it doesn't hurt me this year and I couldn't find another deal I liked. 6. Salary cap next year is my business. I could cut Cano and Kershaw and be flush with cash. Look what I did with Braun before this season. 7. Sometimes you reach an impass and can't get a deal done. It happens. Rejecting trades flat out without countering rarely gets to what both of you are willing to do.

We went back and forth on this trade for a week. Originally I was after Snydergaard. I have Mondesi ranked as highly as the Twins. So when he asked for him i refused and i think we both thought the talks were dead. I reconsidered for a couple of reasons and told him MOndesi is available if I get Snydergaard or cash. He opted for cash. I denied him until he hit my magic number.
Hope I'm not revealing too much, Twins. Sorry if I am.
I don't think he's any further over the cap for next year than I was for this year. He only has to trade or cut 3 or 4 guys to get under for next year.

Pederson is a marginal OF prospect..24th or 25th man on the roster type. Mondesi is a high upside pure SS. Not too many pure SS in the minors with any kind of offensive upside. He'll be a hot prospect this time next year. You won't be able to get him for $8m.

I don't want to reveal negotiations or anything, but Joc for Mondesi was not fine or that would have been the deal and I would have been ecstatic! I didn't want to give up other things, so I chose 2015 money.
nego's my a$$. pitt cried and wailed like a little baby wanting his way. "wah i want 8 mil or its no deal"...and you gave in with $$$ you dont have. Minn, you work for the government?
