it's not illegal to be stupid, and I don't have to get under 2015 cap until after 2014. My payroll right now for 2014 is over $120 mil because cash transactions are allowed. I plan on making it under the 2015 cap and hopefully not finishing below 5th place next year.

lol. i didnt want to trade mondesi. if you want a player that the other owner does not want to trade, you have to overpay. whether mondesi is worth $8m or not isnt the question. the question is, what price did it take to get mondesi. that price is $8m!
as i signed-off to cool off i remembered something that happened over the winter and it KINDA applies here. to be fair to minn and pitt i will offer this up to the class. i offered 10mil to a team for a closer. the closer was being paid 600k/5 yrs. so pro-rated his salary would be about 2.5mil/yr, which is way cheaper than anything in fa. sadly the other manager didnt accept the offer. this was for a current, 'proven' pitcher.
ok class. can you spend cash you dont have in this league?
I gotta agree with the admin on this one. Joc Peterson is certainly not a low level prospect. In fact, I think he's progressing upward into a decent major leaguer. That is when he's traded out of LA. And to think Minny throws in 8 million. Go figure.
As for Mondesi, they jury is still out on him. Could be great, could be the best but worth what you gave up today? Not even close. I know today doesn't matter, what about in 2015? I say that's when the trade starts going Pittsburgh way and continues. Maybe by 2020 Minny will start to recoup something on this trade.
Kudos to pittsburgh for being able to pull this off. I cant even think that far ahead. In the end, I'd rather have Joc and my $8 million and see how the future unfolds.
This is what happens when you fall in love with a player too much. Very reminiscent of the Herschell Walker trade. As long SS Minny is below next year's cap by October nothing wrong with it but think thus trade is gonna cost Minny more than Pederson and $8 mil but the jury is out on that.
Right now its a great move on Pitts part. He needed to make some cap room and he did. Minny, hope ur master plan works out but at this moment if this is gonna force you to drop Cano or Kershaw then I have my doubts.
I think my opinion on the specifics of the trade is probably irrelevant. As long as Minn is under before rosters reset I have no issues. Both participants clearly go for it every year and are pleased with the end result of this trade that is good enough for me.

Mondesi is obviously a polarizing prospect. Certainly there are better SS prospects (Baez anyone?). How much cash would someone have to pay you for that guy?
Minny is going to have to cut Cano/Kershaw anyway. Plus, he is going to hit the skids next year. SO the cash ($8m) in 2015 means very little to him. Maybe it's the difference between finishing 5th or 6th. At that point, who cares IMHO. If he likes the player much more than Pederson than it makes all the sense in the world. I'm going for it next year, so the cash was more important to me.
Some years cash means more to you than others. Some years prospects do. Not all things are created equal.

Definitely correct except for 6th place. I've never finished that low and prefer not to!
Really tho there are only 30 prospects in the top 30. The very top are not available at all, and San Diego has a strangle hold on half of them it seems...
