What if we had like a 1 rnd draft like a week or two before opening day where guys could snap up people we missed out on in milb. People like tanaka or darvish, or thisbyr maybe tyler white wins 1b in Houston. Alternatively there could be a guy you missed in milb that is all over top 100 lists (shoulda drafted rowdy tellez dangit!)
Could it be an optional draft, if a team doesn't use their pick, add to the end of the 1st round in the next MILB free agent draft. Of course that pick would follow the draft order rules regarding the EOS standings, just a thought to throw out there also.
How is the order determined? There are usually only a couple of players that this would apply to, who would be worth drafting (Tanaka, Darvish...) that would/could change a team.
This impacts our current system of 150 abs / 50 ip. If I save 30 million dollars in salary for a season, by having this draft, you are taking my ability to sign these players mid year, and better my team.

I'm also in a 20 team with 20 ml spots so I have to dig deep. I could name a few (but I won't) I was thinking more of guys like white who look to make majors and keep us from waiting for 50/150 on intl fa that didn't make the deadline.
I would still say reverse finish of last yr for order or we could go complete random I suppose

I do kinda like sd idea of if you don't pick in the spring training draft you get a supplemental pick in regular milb, but I would say after the 2nd rnd

I have a more radical idea. Let's get rid of minor league contract years. Put a cap on how many Milbs one can contract, say a total of no more than 15 or 20.
As for this tertiary draft idea, eh. I could have drafted 5 more guys out there I would LOVE to have in my Milb. I just dont have anymore room for them. The contract years vs a player quantity cap, dont get me wrong, it's still fun.
Also, Detroit, I hope Andrew Bailey gives up 30 HRs in 15 innings.
Yeah, after rethinking this idea, I agree with Philly. Don't change what works.
As for the Brewers idea about capping the number of minor league players...no. There are some guys who get assigned 5 years when drafted, and are decent prospects, but don't get a shot at the bigs till the contract expires (Josh Bell).
