I found some posts from Pitts in 2015. I highlighted the main bullets for you Detroit.
Referring to Chris Davis- "I believe so. This is from Yahoo:
A player will gain eligibility at a new position after five starts at that position, or 10 total appearances at that position. Pitchers need to make three starts to become eligible as a starter, or five relief appearances to qualify as a reliever.
As far as I can tell, all of his games in the outfield were starts."
"Some new members who haven't played in Yahoo leagues before may have questions regarding Yahoo. Obviously, where they conflict, our league rules supersede Yahoo rules. However, Yahoo rules do govern certain aspects of our play, such as deadlines for editing your lineup, player position eligibility, etc...
You can find the complete set of Yahoo rules here: help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/sports/fantasysports/baseball/rules/;_ylt=Ap3drvOV2i7vXdRb42Kzvuzj03hG
Some specific and pertinent topics:
Position eligibility: help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/sports/fantasysports/baseball/season/baseball-09.html
Why do you think this pertains to Boston's new first baseman? For your information, it doesn't. I know what positions Han Ram will be eligible for next season.
Btw, this is information for "in season" rules. In order to carry over position eligibility for next year, how many starts/appearances at a position are necessary to carry eligibility for the next season?
At the beginning of the Fantasy Baseball season, Yahoo Sports placed all players into positions, based partially on information from official MLB rosters but also drawing from past performance."
It doesn't really answer your question though :/ You are looking to empirically determine a player's position before Yahoo opens 2016, assuming the player doesn't have some kind of past performance to draw from. Also article doesn't cover length of games needed to maintain position eligibility. But I always thought it was the same as acquiring the position eligibility. So if it takes 5 games to get an elig at a position, a player likewise must start 5 games at a position to carry into next year.
I used that logic when I went after Ben Zobrist with the idea of making him a super utility for my bench. I hope I wasn't wrong.
