I think we have discussed before but wanted to bring it up again. To make it more realistic for fa auction what if you had to give yrs w high dollar bids, for example.
Players bidding over $10 mil must give at least 2 yrs 15 mil must give at least 3 yrs $20 mil must give at least 4 yrs $25 mil must give 5 yrs at least
This simulates the risk of mega contracts in real life. Also keeps someone like me spending 25 mil on stanton for 1 yr cuz I want to spend that money on trout next yr when you guys legit want stanton long term. Obv couldn't implement til next season as I already signed altuve for 13.9 for only 1 yr deal.

Chicago and I just discussed this a bit over email. I like the idea a bit and I think he is in favor of trying to restrict all the 1 yr contracts somehow (don't want to speak for him though).
We agreed to let this year play out and see how many 1 year deals get done.

What's wrong with 1 yr deals? I understand this is a salary cap league, so not a free market economy. But, we dont need to bleed out all the free market leveraging. 1 yr contracts bridge me hopefully to my prospects whom I can sign long term. And I can sign the theoretical 38 yr old who hits 50 HRs to 1 yr, and not worry about some forced contract that expires when he is 43 yrs old...no offense to us old people here.

This is not to mention relievers. I am averse to signing relievers to long term contracts with the exception of a few whom are elite. But even they, you have to question. I sign a Kanley Jensen to 5 yrs 25 mil a yr, I laugh at all of you guys at my score. And the Dodgers go out and get Aroldis Chapman, and he is designated for closer duties. Now the league laughs at my tears.
I just like having that leverage to sign someone to a year. We don't need to fix this. Please, anyone agrees with me speak up, b/c this is potentially a lousy rule. No offense to the idea originator.

I don't like giving long term deals either but look at mlb w grienke getting 6 yrs, in Cashman he only got 3. My point is a guy like stanton wouldn't sign for 1 yr in mlb but very well could in cashman

We'll keep it as is. The problem arises when we reach an equilibrium where every all star is on a 1 year contract. We haven't gotten there yet so no rule change for now.

IMO Pitts, you have a system that corrects itself. And you have guys out there that are not shy to signing guys to long term deals. I will sign to long term deals if I perceive it to be a smart move.
I think your current system is spot on. If someone doesn't like my 1 yr bidding, yanno what? Beat my bid. Let the system regulate itself. Enough from me on the subject, I turn this over to more imminently smarter gentlemen.
should/can we 'penalize' a team who bids on an auction with 3 or less hours to go. ends w/in 2-3 hrs: min bid 300K ends w/in 1-2 hrs: min bid 500K ends w/in an hr: min bid 750K
Agreed. It's not ideal to wait 23 plus hours, but not outside the rules. The 24 hour rule gives teams time to decide if they want to invest in a player

Maybe since most everyone here is very active, we could lower the time limits. 12 Hr Max Time for players being bid on n only 6 hrs for an initial bid.
Obviously that would speed things up n should be plenty of time 4 people to bid. JMHO
Why are we trying to speed things up? This comes up every year, if you want to speed stuff up add another player to the auction block at the same time.

24 hours is just right. Not everyone has a schedule that would allow them to respond as quickly as many of us do. The auction has been going quickly as is. There is no reason to change things.
