When I was in high school (long long ago) I read Joe Garagiola's autobiography. Did you know that Garagiola and Berra grew up as best friends, right across the street from one another? In fact, Berra might not have been discovered at all except that Garagiola was such a great prospect as a youth (he was signed as a 16 year old) and attracted many scouts to the area who eventually found Berra as well.
Garagiola said that Yogi was the best major league catcher of all time, but the 2nd best catcher on their street.
For some reason that always stuck with me.
