Entry Draft

Question to the league....with Milwaukee's untimely and sudden departure, we are left with a dilemma regarding the entry draft. Normally we'd be having it shortly, however we are short an owner. Milwaukee does have a couple of picks in the draft. So, I'll put up a poll to get the league opinion on a couple of options. I can't guarantee we'll follow the league consensus, but it will help inform the decision.

the milw franchise has 'earned' its positions in the draft order. we give 'next best' in the minor draft, shouldnt be any different for the entry draft.

I say delay the draft until we get a replacement. There is no rush.

We should at least delay to the signing deadline, like we did last year. Some HS players may opt for college, which could cause a lost pick.

Pitt/Chi, signing deadline is July 17, just looked it up.

Minny, I know we have drafted players who haven't signed before. Aiken last year, and other high schoolers in previous years.

Point being, if a high school player opts for college, we basically lose 3 years on that player and hope he can make it to the majors quickly when he gets drafted again. Its a risk that we all take.

I say wait. There is no rush. This will give a potential new owner an opportunity to get some draft experience.

Thanks to all for the input. It really did help to inform the decision.

I'd like to start the draft Friday, July 24. Not only does this give us time to replace Milw (hopefully), but also gives us time to see who signs. If we don't have an owner for Milw by that time, he will get the 'next best' according to the official 2015 MLB draft order.
