I know people have been complaining about baseball salaries forever. But things are really out of control now.
Chase Headley just signed for 4 years, $52m. Headley has hit .250, .243, .229, .262 over the last 4 years. He has OPS'd over .800 exactly once in his career. He does not play a premier defensive position.
To put this in perspective... Chase Headley and Andrew McCutchen are both signed for the next 4 years. McCutchen will make $51.75 million while Headley will make $52m.
McCutchen's crime was signing such a long term contract. With salaries escalating so much over the last couple of years, I don't know why any position player under 30 would sign more than a 2-3 year deal.

Provided a guy stays healthy and effective (big ifs to be sure!) Their deal improves sometimes. Cole hamels deal is prime example purely due to sp salary inflation
