To spice up time btw end of milb and auction at begining of the yr and opening day what if we had a rule 5 draft? I'm thinking you get to protect 23 or 24 major leaguers so you got a couple or one person you leave unprotected on major league roster and then maybe a few minors you have to leave unprotected. Then ppl dont have to make a pick but would need roster apot or minor yrs available to make a pick. Could be interesting if someone left a guy who is good but expensive unprotected.

I do not like the idea of having to protect a player that I signed to a contract. If someone else wanted the player, they could have either paid more to get him or put together a trade.
If you want to do that with prospects, like the MLB Rule 5, I would go along with that. Also, you would also have to pay a fee to take a prospect as well.
Finally, like Pitt said, it doesn't seem necessary.
