this one is wholly non-important, just something different.
as we have done in the past is to construct a list of players, A -> Z and bid in alpha order. from adrian gonzalez to joey votto to ryan braun and of course there's always yovanni to end the auction. what i propose as a 'perk' for the last place finisher is to let them decide WHERE to start the auction. instead of a-to-z, he may decide to start the auction with joey votto. then it would go j-to-z, a-to-i.
i wouldnt necessarily mind nominating players as such. us ORIGINAL old-farts remember the auction that created the league was that way. but now i dont know of fair that would be to everyone. current auction you assume and agree to any disadvantage you may incur by overspending $$$ during the prior season(s). going to 'nominating' next year might tip the balance one way or the other. have to think about it.
I'm up for something but not "nominating". I could see a lot of big name players going early and then interest would slow down. How about if we jump to the next letter, b then c, etc?
I really don't mind the current system as the players change. Yovanni shouldn't be there this year
Maybe keep it alphabetical, but instead of going through all the A's, Let the 1st A go off the board, then go to the first B.. And so on through the alphabet and go back in reverse order like the draft goes.

How about each owner nominate a top ten and then rank those receiving votes. After all the nominated players are done, we go back to the alphabetical order auction.
I don't like the nominating, can lead to a lack of interest after the big names have been taken. I like the alphabetical way, could change it up by drawing the order out of a hat or something like that.

Doesn't the lack of interest reward those teams who are paying attention? Isn't that a good thing?
