auctions. to extend it we could drop the '12-hour rule' and let each player go for the 24-hour period. many players were not included arbitrarily by me. those were listed. we could expand the pool of players for an auction.
MiLB draft. we could extend the amount of time for each manager to choose a player. currently its 6 hours to pick. either 12 hours to pick or... example we each get a date. LA: Jan 3rd SD: Jan 4th Bost: Jan 5th etc. Then each round would be 14 days X 5 rounds? This might be too long. 10 weeks for the draft? 2-1/2 months? From our start time it would extend into March.
or then run the MiLB draft concurrently with the auction or start the draft earlier.
i wouldnt be opposed to changing the MiLB draft parameters for THIS YEAR if most people want to extend the off-season. Half the sites I go to for minor league lists dont post their top 100's until January anyway. BA, BP, Sickels have started but wont finish until our draft is over. perhaps more time for more info is better.
i kinda like the idea of extending the off-season. i'm not much into any other fantasy games. havent played fantasy football for about 3 years now, since i whipped detroits ass at that time and wasnt invited back! JK prior (not Mark)inquiries about our league managers creating a fantasy football or basketball league didnt pan out.
good ideas on the auctions. i do like the 12 hour rule though. i would like to see any player that has value be listed on the free agent list. a few were left off but nothing major. maybe teams can nominate players again.
i like the way the MiLB draft runs. i would not change it. the only thing i would do if we were to entended free agency is to put free agency on hold until after the MiLB draft thus only having 1 thing going on at a time.
being the admin i try and note who signs in regularly or not. not difficult since its listed in 24 hour increments at bottom of screen plus the admin acct has some hidden tricks. within a 24 hour period a majority of owners have always signed-in. and thats not counting just accessing the site to read whatever posts have been entered. i think philly is correct in saying that the interest is there in this league and it would be more interesting having something to do(auction, drafts) during the long off-season than just reading the posts...tho engaging as they are. any attempts at 'conversation' concerning baseball usually die out within 2 days or so.

I didn't experience the FA bidding period last season so I can't compare and was unavoidably AWOL for a portion of this one but it did seem to be rushed.
I also don't think it would be wise to run the auction concurrently with the MiLB draft as things could get confusing as well as some FA bids might be influenced to a certain extent by who is available in the MiLB draft as far as team building, ie-do you bid on Player A if his price goes up a little high and it's currently your turn in the MiLB draft where you can pick a person who plays the same position? Pick a different MiLB player and stop bidding on a player in the auction and this affects how your team turns out.
Auction draft separate then you know who you've signed going into the MiLB draft so you know better who to target in the MiLB draft.
I do think a few day break around Thanksgiving and X-mas is a good idea especially for those with families.
24 hour rule for FA auction is probably a good idea. If you work an 8 hour shift and then go out or shopping or some such thing right after work and the 12 hour period is 8am to 8pm for example you might totally miss out. Typically everybody should be able to check in at least once in a 24 hour period.

not sure if I would be in favor of this or if someone else has already hinted at it previously. What if we had our minor league entry draft as usual, but minor league free agents there were another auction. The complication would be you would need to have years as well as money to bid. I don't know... something we could discuss.
Minny I know you are an original here with us but did you migrate from the other league to form cashmans? You may have participated in the following. I'm not advocating the following but just explaining what happened in a previous league that I thought was novel. A problem occured before our minor league draft/auction. The Commish decided to use our draft picks as 'currency'. Example: Using our current draft slots.... Chapman is being auctioned and Detroit bids his 2nd round pick, #7 for that round. Balt then bids his 1st rounder, #9 pick. SD then bids his 1st rounder, #2, and LA declines. SD wins Chapman with that pick. Follow? The best pick wins auction. Kinda cool.

I was with the original league (managed the Reds), but don't really remember that much about it. That would pretty much get us the same results as the draft but string it out longer. Which may or may not be what we want.

I don't mind if anyone wants to debate or discuss potential rule changes...but please do it over in the chat forum. Keep this forum for posting ideas only...discuss and debate elsewhere.
Otherwise, it's going to be hard to wade through the clutter and remember what we decided (which is why I proposed this board in the first place). I promise to set aside plenty of time for official debate later on.
Being able to drop minor league players during the year. The MiLB draft is near and we all should be close to the 75 year limit. It will take some time to whittle the years down during the season. Why not be able to drop a player if you need to for trade purposes.

I wouldn't mind something like that. I'd personally prefer there just be two drop periods, one before each draft.

I think that is a good idea, if you want to drop a minor leaguer than you should be able to all year.
what about lifting the restriction of not re-using WW spots? right now if you place a player on WW1, and drop him, that spot is frozen so nobody else can use it. i say as long as you are paying the salary for a dropped player we can use the spot again for a different player.
AVG only counts the times reaching base via hits. OBP also includes BB, HBP, reached base on an error among other things. Actually AVG is a subset of OBP. If we get rid of either, I would ditch AVG and keep OBP and add SLG%. OBP is a subset of OPS just as AVG is a subset of OBP.
