I'd like to see a 2-3+ man taxi-squad. Would be in addition to 25-man roster. FA's with major league eligibilty only. To be drafted after the MiLB draft and no contracts given to them....FREE. These would be the leftovers, good for backups only. Draft positions not tradeable. Can be more than 3 during the year because of trades. At end of year all players(w/o salaries) released to FA for following year. Can sign 'em or release 'em.
If promoted and given a salary they then would be treated as regular. They couldnt go back to taxi-sqaud, would either go to WW or be released.
At times it is difficult to complete trades with just players, minors and draft picks. This gives another option.
What we're talking about here is the Cust//Lowe's of the baseball world. Not good enough to sign but as a backup. Michael Saunders, a rook who gained MLB status but was cut. Kris Medlan, was going decently but was injured. There are plenty of players you could take a chance on for FREE for the season. If it doesnt work out you release them.
Not sure how to do it, but add a way to extend a contract for a "Franchise Type Player". We do it in my football league and it seems to work well, not sure if it would work in a baseball league.
For Example, Pujols is in the last year of his contract, and you want to keep him next year. We have a system to determine how much it would cost to keep a player, then we give all other teams a chance to make an offer (Say it costs 10 million if the original owner of Pujols to keep him, and someone else offers 12 million).
The original owner has a chance to match any offer, but if they don't they get compensated with a draft pick.
Something to think about. Like I said, not sure if it would work or if people would want to try it. Only works for 1 player a year.

If you cut a player, you have to wait a full blind bidding period before you can bid on him.
For example, you cut player x on monday. everyone can bid on him for wednesday except you. you cant win him until sunday.
this would alleviate guys getting cut and resigned at the end of the year to resign them to longer contracts thus keeping them out of the FA auction period.
To add to Pitt's last suggestion, if you do bid on someone on Wednesday that you cut on Monday, you could make it that they can bid but they must re-sign them to the exact same contract (Amount and Years) and still must pay the penalty for cutting.
I do like the idea of having a franchise player. I think it should work like the NFL rules, 1 allowed per year, have to pay them an average of the top 3 players at his position. if you have a young guy that you want to keep that was making the minimum salary, it will cost your team greatly. In the same aspect, you might be overpaying for a player in his current contract and might end up saving moey on him.

Ok so pardon the stupid newbie question here but:
The 3 waiver pass slots we have are not necessarily for injured players but also for players who are currently sucking, or not playing regularly that we don't really want to release. Is that correct, or have I just been picked off 1st base for leaning the wrong way?
Also since I wasn't involved in the Yahoo part of the league last season due to being called up from minors late in the year how exactly are the 5 DL spots in Yahoo treated?
Do salaries count? What if any correlation is there between the DL/Waiver spots in terms of salaries and roster spots.
If I understand correctly a team could control the rights of 25 + 3 + 5 =33 players at some point in the season.
What form of intricate balancing act is enacted to keep someone from accidentally picking up a waiver pass player from some other team?
Full of questions today, and apparently a little warm beer gas as well. Be thankful you all aren't here. I think the lump on the floor in the other room used to be the cat, lol!
WW. Correct. 3 spots for players you want to keep but are currently sucky or whatever. Their salaries count. Just a holding area. Can go back and forth from roster to WW with no penalty. The spot you use is for them only, even if released.
DL. Yahoo allows for up to 5 DL spots. Salaries count. WW and DL dont count vs. the 25-man roster but salaries do. Once off the DL in real life you must place player back onto your roster before Yahoo allows any other transaction, but you knew that already.
Yep, your calculation is correct. 33 players.
You can accidentally REQUEST to acquire a player thats on a teams WW since it would show on the Yahoo list of players available. In that case either Pitts or myself, who do transactions this year, would catch it and penalize you by forcing you to listen to ABBA.
phillies notes of cashman's league. what i would propose.
dynasty league off season??? shouldn't be one. as of december 7 (the last free agent bid placed) there has been no reason to log in. the off season should be as much fun as the season with this being a dynasty league. i would like to see the off season action run up until spring training starts or at least close. really, what are we going to do until april?? milb draft for 2 weeks. to do this i would proposed...
turn in final season rosters the following saturday (almost 1 week after the season ends).
start free agency bidding the following monday and bumping it back to 2 players to be bid on instead of 3 at one time. last years final bid was placed on jan. 3, almost 1 month later.
add breaks for thanksgiving (4 days), christmas (3 or 4 days), new years (2 days) and the MiLB draft (2 weeks) thus adding time to the off season.
if the free agency bidding is slow and i mean lots of players to be bid on in the middle of march we can always bump it to 3 players at a time to speed it up.
i think by doing this it will keep owners interested to loggin in. not just to bid but to see what bids are. more trades could be made or at least posted by a team winning a player in free agency. additional players could be cut and added to free agency list.
really, unless you like to log in and see no new postings why not extend the off season??
i also like to the idea of cutting up to 4 prospects for the MiLB draft.
overall, the league is great and has finally gotten to a point where i think all the owners will be around for a long time.
