Was having a conversation with one of r newer members about deadlines and getting ready for FA. He asked WTF we were rushing to get started on 2025 with Football, Hockey, Basketball, and Holidays, all happening or about to? It’s been this way since I’ve been here, but it made me think…would it be crazy to shut down for 2 months after the Regular Season ends??? I know I could use a break n I bet Minny could as well. The offseason schedule was made earlier but is too late to take a break?
This is just me talking out loud, not necessarily making a change now, but if not this year maybe next? Personally, I’d rather have 2 months off now n then starting in January, run 2025.

During the MLB winter meetings players are traded, you csn’t get honest value if uou win the bid on someone, land him on your roster, thrn he hets traded and his role changes.

Im ok with a break especially since baseball FA in real life doesn’t eveb fully start when we start 11/2. But i can go either way…..those of us who dont have to edit stuff dont do much but bid/post.
I don’t really care either way. However, if you are going to “wait for 2 months” you will seriously need your cut down on the FAAB list to give enough time to get thru the list.
Honestly, there is only about 100 players of the ~ 180/190 players that make it on the FAAB list that really get bid on. However, you should put something into play that allows any team to nominate any player for auction that didn’t make the list initially.
I’m busy all the time and have no time for fun stuff 12 months of the year. Slow playing FAAB is not the worst thing, but people who are really dedicated to this type of league will completely disappear or vanish if you break for 2 months.
Also, I don’t have the time to get on the boards multiple times a day anymore. This means if I want a player, it’s gonna take time with back and forth bidding. Gotta allow enough time to take our time for the bids.
The editing of the sheets always has to happen. I think submitting final rosters right after the season ends is smart. This way people can do their homework on the free agents hitting the market. Delaying the bidding is ok, but I’m not in favor of delaying final roster submissions at all.
Football is on. Who cares. Hockey and basketball? Again, who cares.
If you are in a dynasty, salary cap fantasy baseball league, you are committing to 7-8 months of your year a daily grind with your fantasy baseball team. If this is too much of a commitment for people, step aside and let someone who likes baseball take over your team.
I manage 6 fantasy football teams. It takes almost no time to do my research and manipulate my team accordingly once a week.

I really don't see any issue either way. 2 months off would be cool but for some owners (no one specific in Cashman's), I see Detroit's point of our committment to this league. I'll go with majority

I personally like having FA early. It makes you make your own decisions because rankings are hard to come by. I think just shutting things down for 2 months could result in teams never showing back up. If you want to delay FA bidding a bit I guess that is ok, but it goes so slow it doesn't bother me. The sheets aren't that much of a problem. The worst is during drafts when picks are flying back and forth, but I just tell myself it's better than nothing happening. Busy sheets mean an active league. Dynasty means you don't take breaks to me, and I like it that way. I do it for football, basketball, and baseball.

I understand stand both sides to this. Maybe a compromise. Not a full shutdown for 2 months. Allow managers to still make moves. Push fa bidding back maybe 6 weeks? Yes it should be cut down as there is shit ton of guys that never get bid on. If you want a guy not on the list you can nominate them. Minny is right in that a 2 month shutdown you will see managers disappear and never return. Happens all the time in normal leagues. The part I like here is it's baseball all year.

I’m personally opposed to changing the timing of FA. I enjoy having something going on for most of the year, it keeps interest up. I also really look forward to FA and don’t want to potentially rush it in the spring.
I think Detroit made some really good points. If we have an extended break, we’re likely going to have issues with retention. Then we’ll be scrambling to replace a team, possibly multiple, right before FA starts.

I'm OK either way, I'd rather not take to long of a break before FA bidding as some managers might drift away as others have stated. I could see where breaking for a couple more weeks could work without putting a lot of constraints on the current set up. For example, we currently start the 2025 cap year on 10/28 and begin FA on 11/2. I could see keeping the cap year starting on 10/28 and allowing trades with FA starting on 11/15. This gives a couple more weeks for a break but still allows trades for those who want to be more active. I think FA bidding would still wrap up before the MiLB draft and the start of the season. Just an idea, and again I'll be good with whatever the group decides

Good Discussion Guys! As this was kind of an 11th hour type suggestion, it would’ve needed an overwhelming majority to be in support in order to make the change effective this year and there seemed to be almost a 50/50 type split of opinion, so not gonna happen for this season but more likely to take place after the 2025 Season. Chris (Old Milwaukee) has volunteered to once again help with some Admin Changes due to adding another Entry Round and increasing the number of MiLB years that each team has. He has some work commitments so won’t be able to help for a couple weeks. We’ll shoot to start FA on 11/16 but could be later depending on what gets done (or doesn’t…lol!). We can have a limited trading period open between from 11/01 - 11/15.
