If we basically make the limit infinity, then we should actually do away with the MILB draft since there wont be anyone available for it.
Just have 1 draft that occurs after the real MLB draft. Make it 5 rounds. All minor league players are eligible to be drafted (not just recently drafted players). That would greatly simplify things.
If there is 1 rule change that comes of this, I would like it to be 'unlimited prospect drops all year round'

One draft may be really tough to pull off at this point. I think we have multiple owners who have dealt picks into 2025.
I’m all for increasing Milb years, as long as we don’t overdo it. With 100 would owners really carry many more players or just auto assign every draftee to 5 year contracts from the start? We could lose some of the strategy involved if we go too high.
I had over 30 players in my minors because I drafted wisely and used my years to my advantage. Yet there are PLENTY of players left to draft. Even adding a round to a draft extrapolate it out 5 years means 70 more players max are accounted for.
What’s the need for an increase in max minor league years? Why change it now? What’s the point unless we change something else to justify changing it? Why would we “partly" evolve and not “fully” evolve?

Thinking about it more adding yrs decreases strategy because you can just assign everyone 5 yrs like someone said, and I don't really see it improving the league, so put me down for...

I’d actually enjoy an expanded draft and years added, but I know it’s hard to ever get a consensus here. That’s y the Commish has to step in and make decisions, but it should b based on sound reasoning and not just a “feel” he might have!
All joking aside, I would be temped to expand the years and draft(s), but I really don't see the need for it. There is no reason to increase the years permanently, other than lack of tact or sound reasoning when drafting players and just assigning 4-5 years each regardless of who they are. I haven't heard 1 good reason for increasing the years yet. I'm listening tho...
As far as expanding the draft...well, the MiLB draft would be the easiest to expand. For each round added, add 5 years total to the minor years. More than that, starts to take the strategy out of assigning years to players.
I'm not against this idea. I just do not like to change something without sound reasoning. There is NO reason to add minor league years to all teams, except that I heard Pitts is now at the upper threshold. This cannot be the reason to change this.
