This year we have the new pre allstar trade rule in effect. see rules for all details. However this rule only should matter when salary is traded with a player to a different team. It has no mention or any rule about just trading a player to a team. If i lets say trade harper to philly for whatever and do not pay any of his salary this rule should not matter to this trade as i am not paying any of said player traded regardless of what his contract is. If the other team has 20 mil in cap room and wants harper then i see no issue with a trade. Can we get some clarification towards the trading rules for the upcoming season and fa bids and trading opens back up?? Because if we have to track salary for every single player traded that is crazy. Am i wrong??
iirc, this debate started with how to curb the 1-year mega-contract. then as you know that player is traded quickly along with salary help. that was to be the penalty for signing/trading such...no salary assistance until after the ASB. is shouldnt affect our usual trading habits.
And thats within the rules. If u want to spend 20 mil on picks or prospects thats ok. But i agree trading a player and paying his contract should be controlled especially 1yr high dollar guys.
Yes I understand the rule but it does not pertain to what I mentioned. Trading a player for cash. None of the player Being traded contract is being paid. The contract goes With the player.
