You can trade cash for a player. So if you have Babe Ruth and I want him, I can buy him from you for $20m (and I'll have to pay the salary too).
You cannot trade a player to another owner AND contribute more than half the salary in the current year. So if you have Babe Ruth, and he makes $30m this year, you cannot trade him to me and give me $15m or more in current year cash for whatever return we negotiate.

Excellent thanks for clarifying. My apologies to LAD and PHI on the Merrifield deal. You should be able to proceed with it after we flip yrs and rosters unlock for trading again.

The idea is that we dont want owners skirting the salary cap by acquiring star players for nothing. We also dont want owners only using their cap space to acquire prospects/picks by bidding on guys they only want to trade.
