I don't have to agree to every rule. I certainly don't think this league is broken if we continue to treat foreign pros as we do now. I'd just prefer if we were allowed to own them as minor leaguers. But I wouldn't ask for a change unless most people agreed.
or we can keep it simple. players from japan, korea, cuba arent eligible for the milb draft. you must wait until 50/150. thats about as easy as can be. these signings usually go to the majors immed. the other foreign players (dominican, venezuela, pr, etc) go directly to the minors. this would add a level of strategy as to $$$ on-hand during the year. i'm in favor of this suggestion...next year.
We could make it a circus like they do for the really highly touted imports (Dice-K, Darvish, Tanaka) and have a separate bidding war on them. Others that come in under the radar can be treated the same as they are now but for these really high profile imports we could have a 48hr draft. We could choose blind bids or not. Something like "The weekend of 2/8 at midnight we will begin accepting bids for Tanaka, bidding will close at 10pm est on 2/9" Then we either bid like we do now on FA's or we blind bid and send in your highest offer. Like Pitts mentioned earlier though - the player would have to be signed to an MLB team already before this happens. IDK - just a thought

I would be ok w a post milb draft foreign imports bidding time. We would prob have to assign minor yrs tho as they havent reached the threshold so could concievanly return to milb if they got hurt and didnt make 150/50

There are so few of these type of players every year that it does not make sense to make a special rule. The foreign players are no different than the undrafted minor leaguers who make it to the majors. Let's just keep it the same.

Everyone would take Tanaka on their team right now tho so why have his first 50 innings go to waste? If its a bidding system the cap space rich will still get him, so why make them wait to part with their money.
Allowing a bidding war by nomination with a hefty minimum amount (posting fee) followed by competitive bidding would be a pretty good modeling of how the real mlb does it.

By waiting for the 50 innings, we can see how Tanaka is performing in the Majors. It allows us to make an educated valuation for his services rather than pray that he lives up to the hype. It is the same for any undrafted minor leaguer. Just last year we had to wait Josh Donaldson to reach 150 ab before we could bid on him. I am sure many of us wanted to bid on him sooner. The rule works. There is no need to change the rule just because we know the player will skip the minors.
That's the beauty of the rule, it he turns out to be the next Cy Young, there will be teams making cap space for him. I wouldn'tve spent a lot without seeing him pitch
