Sources have confirmed a another huge trade between the Pirates of Pittsburgh and Orioles of Baltimore. The Pirates have agreed to send Cy Young Award Winner Johan Santana, 1B Adrian Gonzalez, and 2B Kelly Johnson to Baltimore for Chase Utley. Utley is considered to be the top second baseman in the league at this point.
The deal came as a shock to Oriole fan's who viewed Utley as the Franchise Player and fan favorite. However, they weren't too angry when they saw who they were getting in return.
To complete this deal, Baltimore will send Vin Mazzaro down to the minor temporarily and place Kelly Johnson on the Disabled List.

WTF? Is the real GM of the Pittsburgh Pirates in this league? Obviously, he will be changing his prediction of the 2011 champship to the 2021 season. Baltimore, I tip my hat to you for pulling off this trade, but I think this trade hurts you more than it helps, unless there is another trade in the works for a 2B.

fwiw, ive been begging for a 2b from this league for 3 months now. you had your chances to rip me off too. lol. really though, i only wanted utley and maybe 1 other guy at 2b for me in 2010.
Balt-let somebody else do your checkbook. Pitt-does thinking on your level make you a math retard? One time, thats it. No way 2 managers cant figure out the deal is over the limit. I will start assessing penalties to BOTH managers next time. I'm forced to use slooooow dial-up. It takes forever updating rosters on Yahoo AND on occasion wont allow access to the s'sheet. I wont sit here all night re-doing rosters. Admin

oh, and i uh, didnt mean to imply i was thinking on some genius level. geniuses dont finish in next to last place like i did. though i think i get more credit for not being a math retard since i did design the spreadsheet!
just trust me that there is a plan in place. think cash, available free agents, and contract lengths. cash is as good as a player if you are not playing for this year.
After sleeping on it and returning here i'm kinda shocked by my reponse. a bit harsh i believe. my apologies to both managers. nevertheless lets try to get it right the 1st time.

i understand your frustration. i can make the spreadsheet adjustments on this one so you dont have to do it again. im going to assume that the trade is still satisfactory to the orioles since he is getting 500k more out of it.
<edit> I see you already did the spreadsheet changes, so all i had to do was add the $$$ part, which i did.
fwiw, im working on a new spreadsheet. i think im going to split it into 2 spreadsheets...one for the AL and one for the NL. it might improve the speed a lot. we'll see.

Pittsburgh, I realized that you were giving up alot of salary in this trade. However, tearing apart what you had already built up is very risky. You had a great pitching staff. You may have the most money when the FA season starts, but there are others who have alot of money too. Your money may not go as far as you are thinking.

maybe my money wont go that far. if so, then i might have made a mistake. of course, i have about $50 mill to spend on 4 or 5 players, so im guessing i can get at least 1 or 2 half decent players.
hard to build up my hitting without breaking down some of my pitching. i still have lincecum, sabathia, danks...with high hopes for buchholz, holland, and maybe even tillman next year. when you consider that santana's contract ends after 2010, and my stated goal has been to win it all in 2011, well....
i know what im doing.
i think.
anyway, there are some great 1b and sp available in free agency. there are no great 2b. ergo....my trade.
