The player search pages at the Cashman google site (https://sites.google.com/view/doin-cashmans-job/home) uses an online app called Awesome Tables that interfaces with the google sheets and allow us to query rosters. When I created this online app, Awesome Table was free.
Soon, Awesome Table will no longer be free. I've started receiving the following emails:
Your app is starting to get used
Your app MiLB Players has reached 80% of its free quota. In order to continue using your app past 500 pageviews, you will have to upgrade to a paid plan.
Please purchase one of the available licenses.
They have put a '500 free lifetime uses' limit on their service. We are approaching those limits on some of the pages. After the limit is reached, you have to pay up to continue to access the data. The cheapest plan is $39/month. Yeah, no thanks.
So what does this mean?
1. Most importantly, it DOES NOT affect the google team sheets in any way. Those remain entirely unaffected. The league can continue to use those indefinitely. NO CHANGE TO TEAM GOOGLE SHEETS!
2. Eventually the Doin'Cashman Job site will fail because the underlying table data is no longer available via Awesome Table. I presume some kind of message or something will be displayed on the page instead.
So, this is nothing critically damaging to the league. More like a severe inconvenience that you'll have to search for players some other way. So more or less like it was the first 10 years or so of the league. Inconvenient and annoying, but not crippling.
If anyone wants to take a shot at creating their own tool or changing the existing site to use a different data source, then let me know.
